A hearty classic lasagna made with ground beef, Italian sausage, and a rich cheese mixture.

- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 1 lb (450g) Italian sausage
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 (24 oz) jar marinara sauce
- 1 (14 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 tsp Italian seasoning
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 1 tbsp sugar (optional)
- 16 oz (450g) ricotta cheese
- 8 oz (225g) cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup (100g) grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- 2 cups (200g) shredded mozzarella cheese (divided)
- 2 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (or 1 tsp dried parsley)
- 12 lasagna noodles, cooked according to package instructions
- 2 cups (200g) shredded mozzarella cheese (additional for layering)
- Extra parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- In a large skillet, cook the ground beef, Italian sausage, and diced onion over medium heat until browned. Drain excess grease.
- Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute. Stir in marinara sauce, crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, salt, pepper, and sugar, and let simmer on low for 10-15 minutes.
- In a large bowl, mix ricotta cheese, softened cream cheese, Parmesan cheese, egg, and parsley until smooth. Stir in 1 cup of shredded mozzarella cheese.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- Spread a thin layer of meat sauce at the bottom of the baking dish. Layer 3 cooked lasagna noodles, followed by cheese mixture, meat sauce, and shredded mozzarella. Repeat until ingredients are used, finishing with meat sauce and mozzarella on top.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes until cheese is bubbling and golden.
- Let rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh parsley if desired.
Notes
- Lasagna can be made a day in advance and stored in the refrigerator before baking.
- For a vegetarian option, substitute ground beef and sausage with your favorite vegetables.
