Description

This delightful cream cheese star pastry is perfect for holiday gatherings and celebrations.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets frozen puff pastry, thawed but still cold
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting
  • FOR THE FILLING:
  • 200g cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Lightly flour your work surface to prevent sticking.
  2. In a small bowl, stir together the cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy. Set aside.
  3. Roll each puff pastry sheet gently to remove creases and make the sheets even in size. Place one sheet on the prepared baking tray. Spread the cream cheese filling evenly over it, leaving a ½-inch border around the edges. Place the second sheet of puff pastry on top and press gently to seal the edges.
  4. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut out a large star shape from the layered pastry. You can use a stencil or freehand it with 8 to 12 points. Aim for a symmetrical shape, but don’t worry about perfection.
  5. Slice each star point horizontally into 2 or 3 layers without cutting all the way through. Gently fan each section outward to create a flared, snowflake-like appearance.
  6. Brush the entire surface of the pastry with the beaten egg to help it bake to a deep golden color.
  7. Place the tray in the preheated oven and bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown.
  8. Remove the star from the oven and allow it to cool for about 10 minutes. Dust generously with powdered sugar for a snowy finish before serving.
