Description
Delicious strawberry cream cheese turnovers made with flaky puff pastry and a sweet filling.

- 2 sheets puff pastry, thawed
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon lemon zest
- 1 1/2 cups fresh strawberries, finely chopped
- 3 tablespoons strawberry jam
- 1 tablespoon cornstarch
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon milk or water
- 2 tablespoons coarse sugar
- 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons strawberry syrup or glaze
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Lightly flour your work surface, unfold the puff pastry, and cut each sheet into 4 equal squares.
- In a bowl, beat the cream cheese, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and lemon zest until smooth and creamy.
- In a separate bowl, mix the chopped strawberries, strawberry jam, and cornstarch until evenly coated.
- Spoon a small amount of cheesecake filling into the center of each pastry square, then add the strawberry mixture on top.
- Brush the pastry edges lightly with water or egg wash, fold each square into a triangle, and press the edges closed.
- Crimp the edges with a fork, then cut 1 or 2 small slits on top of each turnover.
- Chill the filled turnovers for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Beat the egg with milk or water, then brush the tops of the turnovers with the egg wash.
- Sprinkle with coarse sugar and bake for 18 to 22 minutes, until puffed and golden brown.
- Let the turnovers cool for 10 minutes, then dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with strawberry syrup or glaze before serving.
